The City College Technical Illustration program teaches students the theory and techniques they need to become successful technical illustrators in engineering and publishing Students learn to produce professional technical illustrations using Computer Assisted Design (CAD) programs. "The Technical Illustration program leads to a certificate of completion with courses in print reading, introduction to CAD, computer applications, engineering graphics, machine technology, and basic and advanced technical illustration.

San Diego offers excellent and equal opportunities for both men and women as technical illustrators.

Departmental Tips:

  • Students need to schedule computer lab time each week in addition to class time to complete class assignments.
  • Students are expected to buy textbook; workbooks, drafting supplies and computer disks for their classes.
  • Drafting and technical illustration techniques are taught with Computer Assisted Design (CAD).
  • CAD training includes isometric and orthographic drawings, CAD wire frame, and surface and solids modeling.
