Important Financial Aid News for 2008-2009

BOG Fee Waiver and Enrollment Fees and Health Fees

The Enrollment fee is still $20 per unit. The BOF Fee Waiver will cover all of the enrollment fees. All students will have to pay the Health fee each semester. The Health fee is $16 per semester for Fall and Spring and $12 for Summer. If students do not pay the Health fee by the payment deadline they will be dropped from all of their classes.

Exception: Students who qualify for a BOG A Fee Waiver due to receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Program) or General Assistance (Food Stamp assistance alone is not sufficient and does not qualify) are exempt from paying the Health fee. Students applying for a BOG A Fee Waiver under one of the above methods must provide proof of receiving these benefits for either the current month or prior month at the time of BOG A application.

Pell Grant Awards

The maximum Pell Grant for eligible students is $4,731 for the 2008-2009 school year.

Electronic Master Promissory Note (ePMN)

You can now complete and sign your MPN electronically on the Internet. The electronic MPN (eMPN) may be signed at

      https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/index.jsp

The eMPN will now be a multi-year document. It will be valid for up to 10 years at San Diego City College and you will not have to complete and sign a new eMPN every year. You can sign your eMPN at any time even before you submit your loan request.

You will be required to use your U.S. Department of Education issued PIN to complete an electronic MPN. To apply for a PIN, you must go to
http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp

Once you sign the eMPN, the U.S. Department of Education will update their database and send an acknowledgement to our school.  If you request a paper MPN, the U.S. Department of Education will print and send you a copy of your MPN.

Direct Deposit of Financial Aid Disbursements

Coming in late Fall 2008, students will have the opportunity to sign up to have their financial aid disbursements deposited directly into their checking or savings account. Sign up will be done through Reg-e and will ensure that checks are not lost in the U.S. mail. Stay tuned for more information.
