Learn meditation techniques to combat the stress and pressure of
modern living, increase focus and attention, and manage anger and
stress from an expert.
The Red Lotus Society is a non-profit organization founded to
promote the practice and awareness of meditation for the improvement
of mental health and environmental wellbeing.
In order to restore balance and nourish community, the Red Lotus
Society offers meditation programs in the San Diego school system,
from elementary to college level, designed to increase focus and
attention, as well as teaching skills in anger and stress
management.

Rachel Borgatti, Manager, Solana Center
Compost 101: What’s composting and why do it? What are some of the
barriers to having more composting in San Diego? Learn about the
local and global environmental implications of composting, including
climate change, pollution prevention and waste stream diversion.
This talk will have tips on how to get started composting wherever
you are, at work, at home, inside or outside!
Rachel is the Compost Program Manager at the Solana Center for
Environmental Innovation, an environmental education non-profit. She
brings to the Solana Center her multi-disciplinary background as a
scientist, an educator and a regulator. Rachel holds a Bachelors of
Science in Biological and Environmental Sciences, a Masters of
Science in Marine, Estuarine, Environmental Sciences, and is
currently enrolled in the graduate program in Nonprofit Leadership
and Management at University of San Diego.

Scott Murray, President, Slow Food San Diego
Counteract fast food and the fast life. Support the small farmer,
local artisans and preserves cultural food traditions. Learn more;
become a member.
The mission of Slow Food is to counteract fast food and fast life,
the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling
interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes
and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Today, there
are 80,000 members world-wide.
Slow Food is dedicated to bio-diversity (preservation of food
variety) and sustainability (meeting present needs without
compromising those of future generations). Slow Food works to
support the small farmer, local artisans and preserves cultural food
traditions.

Scott A. Murray, an organic farmer for 32 years, was a delegate to
the 2004 and 2006 Terra Madre conferences in Turin Italy . As
agriculture program director and teacher at San Pasqual Academy for
Foster Teens, he created the school's Organic and Sustainable farm
project with funding from Slow Food San Diego's 2005 and 2006 annual
Orfila fundraising events and other sources. Scott consults on the
conversion of chemically managed farms to Organic and Sustainable
agricultural practices. He participates in the MESA international
sustainable agriculture training program, with farmers from Peru ,
Thailand , Bolivia , Ecuador , Kenya and France working on the
Academy farm. Scott serves on the of the South Coast Resource
Conservation & Development Council, the California Association of
Resource Conservation and Development and is board President of the
Mission Resource Conservation District an environmental education
non-profit that holds the annual Earth Day Celebration.

Conservation in the Wakatobi Marine National Park, Indonesia
Professor Rempala will discuss her recent research expedition to
Wakatobi Marine National Park in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. She
will highlight conservation efforts in the Wakatobi led by Operation
Wallacea.
