The Knights won the first
two games of the tournament by defeating Mt. San Antonio
(78-62) and Santa Barbara (82-66), but were defeated in

Thomas,
McGuire Sign Letters of Intent
San Diego City College men's
basketball players Malcolm Thomas and Jamel McGuire have
both signed national letters of intent with Division I
programs.
Thomas, a
6-foot-9 sophomore forward, has signed on to join the
San Diego State Aztecs for the 2009-10 season. Thomas
came to SDCC after playing his freshman year at
Pepperdine where he was selected All-WCC honorable
mention and to the WCC All-Freshman Team.
"Malcolm is a beast and
he will be in the NBA within three years," said SDCC
Head Coach Mitch Charlens.
"He is 6-foot-9 and can play any position. He is
a tremendous athlete, he can handle the ball and
he's an incredible passer and decision maker and can
score from anywhere, whenever he wants. With all of
these talents, he is one of the most unselfish
athletes I have ever been around."
McGuire, a 6-foot-5
forward from Gompers High in San Diego, Calif., signed a
letter of intent with Cal State Fullerton for the
2009-10 season. McGuire is currently in his second
season with the SDCC Knights.
"Jamel is the fastest
person with a basketball I
have ever
seen," said Charlens. "No one on the planet
can stay in front of him. He is also always in a
good mood. Always smiling."

Knights
Win Consolation Bracket at Marines.com Tip-Off Classic
The SDCC men's basketball
team defeated Siskiyous, 107-96, in double overtime to
win the consolation championship at the Marines.com
Tip-off Classic in San Francisco.
After dropping the opening
game of the tournament to San Francisco (95-92), the
Knights bounced back to beat Canada College, 75-59, to
advance to the championship game of the consolation
bracket against San Francisco.
Forward Malcolm Thomas
was selected to the All-Tournament Team. He averaged
27.7 points per game during the three game tournament.
Marcquintice Davis recorded a triple-double in Sunday's
contest against San Francisco. He had 20 points, 10
rebounds and 11 assists.
Mitch
Charlens returns for his
fifth year leading the San Diego City College Knights men's
basketball team. Coach Charlens has created a winning basketball
program at San Diego City College. In June of 2004 Charlens took
over a program that won only seven games the previous year and
had no returning players. With a month and a half to field a
team, Charlens built a foundation instilling pride, respect,
accountability, solid work ethic, and honor into each member of
his program. Charlens' Knights finished with an 18-10 overall
record (10-0 at home) and a 12-2 conference record which earned
them the 2004-05 Pacific Coast Conference Championship. The team
also advanced to post season play where they went on to reach
the second round of the Regional State Playoffs. In addition,
the team's success brought upon three All-Conference Player
Selections and a Coach of the Year for All Sports award in the
Pacific Coast Conference for Coach Charlens.[more]
