The Knights, who have also won a third straight Orange Empire Conference title, have not been defeated during this three-year run under Head Coach Son Nguyen. They went 12-0 in both 2006 and 2007, and finished 10-0 this season.

Aenoy Bounsavath and Amy Tu were also successful at individual championships as they won the doubles championship. Bounsavath and Tu defeated Maggie Ho and Keisha Yusman of Skyline to win the state title.

The San Diego City College women's badminton team won its third consecutive Orange Empire Conference title with a defeat of Irvine Valley on Friday by a 21-0 score.

SDCC finished with an 8-0 conference and overall record. It's the third straight season that the Knights have finished the regular season undefeated. They went 10-0 the previous two seasons.

The Knights also won two tournaments this season. They came away champs of the Grossmont Tournament on February 29 and the Mesa Tournament on April 4.
 

The women's badminton team, under the direction of Head Coach Son Nguyen, is once again on top of the Orange Empire Conference. They have defeated all five of their opponents so far this season, two of them by 21-0 scores, and have won first place in both tournaments they've participated in (Grossmont & SD Mesa).

Stephanie Obayashi, the No.1 player, is currently undefeated in both singles (8-0) and doubles (8-0). Sombath Vilitchai has a 10-0 record in No.3/4 singles and 4-0 record in No.1/2 doubles. She and Aenoy Bounsavath teamed up to win the doubles title at the Mesa Tournament.

The Knights have three games remaining in the regular season, all of which are at home. They host Grossmont on April 9, Fullerton on April 16, and Irvine Valley on April 18.

 

Son Nguyen, enters his fourth year as head coach after one season as an assistant at SDCC.  In his first three seasons as head coach, Nguyen has led the women's badminton team to a 34-0 record and three California State Championships (2006, 2007, 2008).

Son brings much experience to the program having taught and coached badminton at the high school level in San Diego and producing some of the top ranked female players in the area. He was also an assistant on last year's SDCC team.
