City Athlete Academic Support Program
CAASP Helps Students Succeed at 4-Year Institutions

The San Diego City Athletic Academic Support Program (CAASP) was created "to provide the necessary resources and guidance that will aid in the successful transfer and matriculation of the City College student-athlete to four-year institutions." The program has helped City College earn a solid reputation for athletic and academic success. More importantly, it has helped literally hundreds of athletes move on to compete at four-year programs while finishing their degree work.

The program's offerings include:

  • Explore your career interests with the athletics counselor.
  • Referral to take values, skills, and interests inventories to help identify a career goal.
  • Provide intensive counseling and guidance to student-athletes.
  • Provide progress reports to let athletes know how they're doing in classes.
  • Establishing workshops to help athletes reach their academic/career goals.
  • Referral for tutoring services as needed.
  • Rewards for academic achievement.
  • Establish a semester-by-semester plan to reach your academic/transfer goals.
  • Transfer/Eligibility assistance.
More information about CAASP is available by contacting the City College Athletic Department at 619-388-3486, or by contacting Academic Counselor Ray Wong, 619-388-3485 or in office P-7.

Ray Wong - Academic Advisor

Ray Wong attended San Diego State University and earned a B.A. in Social Work and an M.S. in Counseling.  He is dedicated to helping student athletes succeed in college, and he particularly enjoys working with students to explore their interests and values to find the right career.  He believes that if student athletes find the right field of study, one in which they feel passionate, they will be successful.

One of Ray Wong’s passions is writing, and he enjoys interviewing student athletes to write their profiles to post on the City College Athletic website.  Check out the profiles to get to know some of our athletes up close and personal.
